Dear Tribal Leaders and Tribal Education Professionals,
Please see the invitation for Tribal leadership and Tribal education stakeholders to attend the Bureau of Indian Education’s (“BIE”) virtual listening sessions scheduled for 3:00PM - 5:00PM (EST) on Wednesday February 24, and Thursday, February 25, 2021. These listening sessions will principally focus on funding and distribution matters related to the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (P.L. 116 – 260).
The BIE plans to review the distribution of funding recently received from the U.S. Department of Education (ED) under the CRRSA to support BIE school and TCU response and recovery requirements. Topics to be discussed during the listening session include:
The BIE will also provide an overview regarding: 1) the issuance of a blanket waiver of certain 25 CFR subchapter E regulatory requirements to ensure appropriate considerations for Indian School Equalization Program (ISEP) and transportation funding for school year 2021-2022 in light of the COVID-19 pandemic; and 2) additional 25 CFR subchapter E regulatory requirement considerations which have been requested.
