The National Indian Health Board (NIHB) is hosting a webinar on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, from 3:30 - 5:00 pm ET. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, from January to June 2020, American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN) were 3.5 times more likely to be diagnosed with COVID-19 than non-Hispanic whites, and their mortality rate was almost twice as high. How does this disparity between COVID-19 infection rate and COVID-19 mortality rates affect how AI/AN communities think about the virus and how they approach public health measures like mask-wearing and social distancing? Join experts as they discuss strategies to effectively work with AI/AN communities to support the prevention and control of COVID-19. This webinar provides an introduction to Tribal public health, the IHS, Tribal, and Urban Indian (I/T/U) health system, and infectious disease epidemiology and outbreak response, focusing on the COVID-19 pandemic in Indian Country.
