The National Indian Health Board (NIHB) and the Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organization (AAPCHO) will be convening a virtual listening session on June 15, 2022, on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) COVID-19 mask guidance around community use of masks. This listening session provides an opportunity for American Indian (AI), Alaska Native (AN), Asian American (AA), and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (NH/PI) communities to ask questions about the CDC’s COVID-19 mask guidance.

Medications are available that can reduce chances of severe illness and death from COVID-19 infection. Oral antivirals are available that can reduce chances of severe illness and death from COVID-19 infection. The Food & Drug Administration issued emergency use authorizations for certain antiviral medications and monoclonal antibodies to treat mild to moderate COVID-19 in people who are more likely to get sick. The National Institutes of Health also provides COVID-19 treatment guidelines for healthcare providers for treating COVID-19 at home or in an outpatient setting. During this COCA Call, subject matter experts will present an overview of COVID-19 therapeutic options, including indications, efficacy, and distribution.

The National Indian Health Board (NIHB) will convene a virtual discussion session on June 22, on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) COVID-19 Staffing Guidance. This session focuses on improving the clinical work environment to attract and retain public health professionals during an emerging or re-emerging infectious disease outbreak. Staff shortages have been a primary challenge in managing patient surges during the COVID-19 pandemic and other disasters. This session will discuss how staffing challenges arise in Tribal healthcare settings and how they can address staff shortages.

While several lifesaving COVID-19 antiviral treatments are now widely available, many community-based organizations supporting pandemic efforts are struggling to ensure the most impacted and at-risk people have information about and access to these treatments.
