The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued Emergency Use Authorizations (EUA) for monoclonal antibodies to treat COVID-19 for certain patients. Monoclonal antibodies may be available through expanded access programs to treat COVID-19 for immunocompromised patients. However, the efficacy of use for immunocompromised patients is unclear.
During this COCA Call, presenters will discuss the FDA’s role in issuing EUAs for certain monoclonal antibodies, options for compassionate use, the process for ordering and distributing monoclonal antibodies, and current data on using monoclonal antibodies for both non-hospitalized and immunocompromised patients. Presenters will also cover preventing, diagnosing, and treating COVID-19 in immunocompromised patients, including the role of monoclonal antibodies, serologic testing, and potential third dose of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Under the American Rescue Plan Act, EDA was allocated $3 billion in supplemental funding to assist communities nationwide in their efforts to build back better by accelerating the economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic and building local economies that will be resilient to future economic shocks. This historic appropriation will support bottom-up, middle-out economic development projects and activities that are focused on advancing equity, creating good-paying jobs, helping workers to develop in-demand skills, building economic resilience, and accelerating the economic recovery for the industries and communities hit hardest by the coronavirus pandemic.
On Friday, July 23, EDA published six (6) separate Notices of Funding Opportunity (NOFOs) soliciting applications for its ARPA funds (view program summary chart). In order to help facilitate participation in these programs, EDA will host a series of webinars for EDA grantees and partners beginning on August 2. Below are links to each individual program web page and registration information for each webinar.
EDA will also host an EDA 101 and American Rescue Plan webinar on Wednesday, August 4 at 2pm Eastern (register).

The National Indian Health Board (NIHB) is hosting the first webinar in the #ACTOFLOVE COVID-19 Vaccine Webinar Series, co-hosted with the Association of American Indian Physicians (AAIP). The Delta variant is now the predominant strain of COVID-19 circulating in Tribal communities. The new surge in cases is prompting Tribes to re-evaluate current public health measures like mask mandates and vaccine requirements. Join the webinar to hear about various Tribal responses and current data from policymakers and experts.
This webinar is focused on knowledge sharing and helping Tribal communities plan and prepare for the increase in cases attributed to the Delta variant. Submit questions ahead of time to cwheeler@nihb.org so presenter(s) have time to review them. Please come prepared to ask questions or share your own insights and experiences.
For questions, please contact Tyler Dougherty at tdougherty@nihb.org.
NOTE: CE credits will not be offered for this webinar.
Panelists:
Who should attend?
The webinar is open to any interested person, but is likely most relevant to Tribal leaders, Tribal public health professionals, Tribal health departments, Tribal healthcare personnel, and those who want to learn more about the Delta variant and Tribal communities.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued Emergency Use Authorizations (EUA) for additional doses of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines for moderately to severely immunocompromised people. People with immunocompromising conditions or who take immunosuppressive medications or therapies are at increased risk for severe COVID-19. Studies indicate that some immunocompromised people have a reduced immune response following a primary COVID-19 vaccine series compared to vaccine recipients who are not immunocompromised. Studies have further demonstrated that an additional mRNA COVID-19 vaccine dose after an initial 2-dose primary mRNA COVID-19 vaccine series in some immunocompromised populations may enhance immune response.
During this COCA Call, presenters will discuss the current data on COVID-19 vaccines in immunocompromised people; the role of additional doses of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines, patients who should be considered to receive these additional COVID-19 vaccine doses, results from the August 13, 2021, Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) meeting, and CDC’s guidance on additional COVID-19 doses in immunocompromised people.
