DESCRIPTION:The USET Tribal Public Health Preparedness and Resilience Task Force (Tribal PHPR) is a Tribally centered epidemiological approach to public health preparedness and resilience. SUMMARY:Indian Country Criminal Jurisdiction
DESCRIPTION:Indian country criminal jurisdiction can be complex. Depending on location of the offense and the Indian status of the defendant or victim\, the crime may be investigated by federal\, state\, or Tribal law enforcement or a combination of agencies. Similarly\, a case may be eligible for prosecution in multiple jurisdictions. This webinar will provide a basic overview of criminal jurisdiction when a crime occurs in Indian country. The emphasis will be on federal jurisdiction. The presentation will cover\, in part\, the following jurisdictional statutes: the Major Crimes Act\, the General Crimes Act\, and the Indian Civil Rights Act. \n\n\n\nThis training is available to all interested parties. There is no charge to attend this training\, and CLE will not be available. \n\n\n\nThis training is a joint effort hosted by federal law enforcement agencies responding to violent crime in Indian Country. DESCRIPTION:Serving as the national clearinghouse and largest child advocacy organization in the United States\, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) offers a unique\, data-driven perspective on child sexual exploitation and missing children cases. This session will explore key trends from 2025 CyberTipline data and highlight emerging threats to child safety and will examine the intersection of child sexual exploitation and children missing from care. In 2025\, 1 in 7 runaway children reported to NCMEC were likely victims of child sex trafficking\, many of whom were involved in the child welfare system. The presenter will discuss the critical role of state and Tribal child welfare professionals and law enforcement in responding to these cases\, with an emphasis on early intervention\, prevention\, and reducing revictimization. Attendees will gain practical insight into NCMEC’s response efforts\, as well as tools and resources available to support professionals and families in addressing exploitation\, missing child cases\, and coordinated care for vulnerable youth. \n\n\n\nThis training is available to all interested parties. There is no charge to attend this training. CLE will not be provided. \n\n\n\nThis training is a joint effort hosted by federal law enforcement agencies responding to violent crime in Indian Country. Tribal law enforcement officers report persistent challenges in identifying and responding appropriately to victims\, navigating victim reluctance to come forward\, and accessing adequate victim service resources. To address these challenges\, the National Criminal Justice Training Center in partnership with the Tribal Law and Policy Institute developed the Tribal Law Enforcement Victim Services Academy.  \n\n\n\nAboutThe Tribal Law Enforcement Victim Services Academy is a 16-week virtual training designed to equip new and current law enforcement officers working in Tribal communities with the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed to support victims of crime using a culturally grounded\, trauma-informed\, and victim-centered approach. \n\n\n\nParticipants will gain the tools and resources needed to strengthen safety\, uphold Tribal sovereignty\, and enhance justice for victims of domestic violence\, dating violence\, sexual assault\, human trafficking\, and stalking. \n\n\n\nTime commitment for the Academy is up to 2.5 hours per week. To be approved for this Academy\, you must receive approval from your supervisor for this dedicated commitment. DESCRIPTION:Join the NAFOA Institute and Baker Tilly x Moss Adams for an educational webinar on New Market Tax Credits and unlocking capital for Native communities. \n\n\n\nThe New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) program\, administered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund\, has entered a historic phase with a $10 billion double round of allocations for the 2024-2025 cycle\, a 20% increase in investments and the largest funding round in program history. A total of 142 Community Development Entities (CDEs) received awards\, with over $230 million specifically targeted for investments in NMTC Native Areas\, reflecting a growing federal emphasis on economic development in Tribal and rural regions. \n\n\n\nFor Tribes and Tribal organizations\, NMTCs represent a powerful strategy to attract private investment into community development. While Tribes generally cannot use tax credits directly\, they can benefit through NMTC financing structures. Investors receive the tax credits\, and the resulting capital flows (typically low-interest loans) can finance Tribal projects structured as qualified low-income community businesses\, lowering overall project costs by roughly 20%. \n\n\n\nRecent allocations highlight how Native-serving CDEs are taking the lead. Native-focused entities were major NMTC awardees in the latest round\, positioning them to channel capital into Tribal economic development. This panel will discuss the ways in which Tribes can tap NMTCs for a wide range of community priorities—including healthcare facilities\, childcare centers\, cultural and educational centers\, infrastructure\, and small business development—by partnering with Native CDE leadership or developing their own CDE capacity. This program focuses on finding health factors and information that can support improved and optimal heart\, lung\, blood\, and sleep health in American Indian (AI) communities. Knowledge gained from the Strong Heart Study has added to Native American communities learning how to improve their health. As an example\, the Strong Heart Study found that AIs with diabetes have a higher risk of developing heart disease. These findings contributed toward the establishment of the Special Diabetes Program for Indians (SDPI) program. Recently\, the Study has found specific environmental factors like high levels of arsenic in drinking water is associated with a higher risk for heart disease. Due to these findings\, there is now an intervention to reduce arsenic levels in well water in Indian Country. The Study has also helped promote community engagement in research and health promotion by funding projects led by and for community members such as walking clubs\, cooking classes\, and health classes. \n\n\n\nNHLBI is seeking your input as we prepare to re-issue the Strong Heart Study\, potentially broadening eligibility to more Tribes and Alaska Native (AN) Villages. We value your guidance and input to learn how best to increase Al/AN participation in the Strong Heart Study program funding opportunity and to assure the Tribe’s priorities are met. Tribal law enforcement officers report persistent challenges in identifying and responding appropriately to victims\, navigating victim reluctance to come forward\, and accessing adequate victim service resources. To address these challenges\, the National Criminal Justice Training Center in partnership with the Tribal Law and Policy Institute developed the Tribal Law Enforcement Victim Services Academy.  \n\n\n\nAboutThe Tribal Law Enforcement Victim Services Academy is a 16-week virtual training designed to equip new and current law enforcement officers working in Tribal communities with the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed to support victims of crime using a culturally grounded\, trauma-informed\, and victim-centered approach. \n\n\n\nParticipants will gain the tools and resources needed to strengthen safety\, uphold Tribal sovereignty\, and enhance justice for victims of domestic violence\, dating violence\, sexual assault\, human trafficking\, and stalking. \n\n\n\nTime commitment for the Academy is up to 2.5 hours per week. To be approved for this Academy\, you must receive approval from your supervisor for this dedicated commitment. DESCRIPTION:The federal government has jurisdiction to prosecute some domestic violence related assaults that are committed in Indian country. This webinar will cover basic federal criminal jurisdiction\, the federal assault statute\, domestic assault by an habitual offender offenses\, relevant portions of the Gun Control Act\, Chapter 110A crimes\, hearsay exceptions and the use of expert witnesses at trial when a victim minimizes or recants. \n\n\n\nThis training is available to all interested parties.
