SUMMARY:21st Annual Government-to-Government Violence Against Women Tribal Consultation
DESCRIPTION:The Office on Violence Against Women is a grant-making agency in the U.S. Department of Justice. Under §903 of Title IX of the United States Department of Justice Reauthorization and Violence Against Women Act of 2005 (VAWA 2005)\, OVW is responsible for conducting annual government-to-government consultations with the leaders of all Federally recognized Indian Tribal governments on behalf of the United States Attorney General. \n\n\n\nThe purpose of each consultation is to solicit recommendations from Tribal government leaders on the following topics: \n\n\n\n\nAdministering Tribal funds and programs;\n\n\n\nEnhancing the safety of Indian women from domestic violence\, dating violence\, sexual assault\, homicide\, stalking\, and sex trafficking;\n\n\n\nStrengthening the federal response to such crimes; and\,\n\n\n\nImproving access to local\, regional\, state\, and federal crime information databases and criminal justice information systems.

DESCRIPTION:Ancient Wisdom Guides Today’s Paths:Respect\, Relevance\, Reciprocity\, ResponsibilityThursday\, September 10\, 20269:00 AM – 2:00 PMVirginia Crossings Hotel & Center \n\n\n\nThis year’s annual Sovereignty Conference will feature four sessions.  Each will highlight one of the themes: Respect\, Relevance\, Reciprocity\, and Responsibility. \n\n\n\n\nSession 1 – Respect: Acknowledging the inherent worth\, dignity\, and unique worldviews of Indigenous peoples and their knowledge systems.\n\n\n\nSession 2 – Relevance: Ensuring that K-12 and higher education include meaningful Indigenous cultural and historic content for all learners.\n\n\n\nSession 3 – Reciprocity: Building relationships based on mutual sharing\, understanding\, and benefit\, moving beyond extractive research models.\n\n\n\nSession 4 – Responsibility: Recognizing the obligations of the Commonwealth of Virginia to include Indigenous nations in legal codes and opportunities already available to others. \n\n\n\n\nTo meet rising costs and continue to provide a comfortable and engaging conference experience\, we will be introducing a registration fee for both in-person and virtual participation.  The fee covers your attendance and a well-prepared meal for those attending in-person. \n\n\n\n$50 General In-Person Fee$35 Tribal Citizen and Staff Fee$15 Virtual Fee
