SUMMARY:Center for Indian Country Development Webinar: Survey of Native Nations Informational Session
DESCRIPTION:July 2 at 11:00 am – 12:00 pm Central\nRegister \nLearn about the Survey of Native Nations at the Center for Indian Country Development (part of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis). \n  \nThe survey gathers tribal government financial statement data – primarily revenues and expenses from fiscal year 2022. Leveraging the resources of the Federal Reserve System\, CICD has built a secure survey platform that allows tribes to submit their data while ensuring the information remains confidential. By partnering with the Federal Reserve Bank to serve as a steward of closely held economic data\, participating tribal governments benefit from a confidential report of their financial statements in comparison to other local governments\, including the aggregated anonymized data of other tribal government participants in the survey when available.

SUMMARY:Center for Indian Country Development Webinar | Economic Impact Beyond Tribal Economies
DESCRIPTION:July 17 at 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm Central\nRegister \nYou are invited to  join on July 17 the webinar for Economic Impact Beyond Tribal Economies\, a Center for Indian Country Development (CICD) event exploring the local economic impacts of the two largest and fastest-growing sources of revenue for Native communities: gaming and federal contracting. \nTribally owned casinos generate substantial revenue\, which is often reinvested into the community. But little is known about their impact on their surrounding economies. Recent research by CICD shows how Tribally owned casinos affect nearby businesses. \nFederal contracting is a rapidly expanding source of revenue for tribes and Alaska Native Corporations (ANCs) and a sustainable source of income for Native Hawaiian Organizations (NHOs). Recent CICD research finds that tribal enterprises\, ANCs\, and NHOs—collectively known as Native entity enterprises—regularly subcontract to non-Native small businesses. \nIn this webinar\, CICD researchers will present their findings on how gaming and federal contracting impact local businesses and economies. Guest panelists will underscore how Native entity enterprises enhance economic diversification\, foster entrepreneurship\, and strengthen economic infrastructure across various local economies in and outside of Indian Country. Participants will hear from this dynamic line-up\, ask questions\, and explore the lessons Native entities have learned as they continue to pursue viable and sustainable revenue-development opportunities. \nSpeakers: \n\nRandall Akee\, Chair\, American Indian Studies Interdepartmental Program; and Associate Professor\, Department of Public Policy; UCLA\nJacqui Baldwin-LeClair\, Policy Analyst\, CICD\, Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis\nElliot Charette\, Senior Research Assistant\, CICD\, Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis\nCasey Lozar\, Vice President and Director\, CICD\, Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis\nTralynna Sherrill Scott\, Chief Economist\, Cherokee Nation Businesses
