SUMMARY:Tribal Public Health Preparedness and Resilience Task Force Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The USET Tribal Public Health Preparedness and Resilience Task Force (Tribal PHPR) is a Tribally centered epidemiological approach to public health preparedness and resilience. Its primary goal is to strengthen the resilience of Tribal Nations in the USET region through strategies focused on mitigation\, prevention\, and preparation in the disaster management cycle.  \n\n\n\nThe Task Force also builds relationships between Tribal Nations and the USET Epidemiology Team\, creating a space to share best practices\, discuss public health strategies\, and collaborate on preparedness efforts. \n\n\n\nWhen: The first Tuesday of each month at 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm Central/1:00 pm – 2:00 pm EasternMeetings will last 30-60 minutes\, depending on the topic. SUMMARY:Migraine and Headache Disorder in Indigenous Communities
DESCRIPTION:The USET Office of Tribal Public Health (OTPH) is delighted to invite you to our first GHWIC Chronic Disease ECHO sessions\, Year 2. The Chronic Disease ECHOs allows Tribal Nations to take their health promotion and disease prevention programs into their own hands\, using traditional knowledge\, community engagement\, culturally relevant programs\, resources\, and educational materials. These quarterly Chronic Disease ECHOs allow us to have a broader reach to work in community-chosen clinical linkages and culturally adapted initiatives to promote focus areas of physical activity/nutrition\, commercial tobacco prevention\, type 2 diabetes\, oral health\, heart disease\, and stroke prevention. \n\n\n\nThese quarterly ECHO sessions will feature Indigenous speakers who are subject matter experts to provide education and disease prevention to reduce health disparities and increase healthier lives among American Indian and Alaska Native communities. They will serve as a gathering for sharing innovative strategies that provide a cultural approach to chronic disease prevention\, management\, and control. The long-term outcome is to reduce rates of death and disability and the prevalence of commercial tobacco use\, prediabetes and diabetes\, high blood pressure\, obesity\, oral disease\, and other chronic disease risk factors and conditions.   \n\n\n\nWe are having this GHWIC C2 Chronic Disease ECHO session to raise awareness about Migraine and Headache disorders in Indigenous communities. The importance of having this session will echo the need for prevention\, management\, and control of chronic diseases. Each participant will receive Tribal tailored resources on this debilitating disorder to better recognize\, treat\, and manage this condition. \n\n\n\nSpeaker: Mary Herne\, FNP‑C\, is a Family Nurse Practitioner serving as a primary care provider with a subspecialty in headache medicine at Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services.  She is a registered member of the community she serves.
