They are the remnants of the cultures of their respective tribes. The cultures they embody are a testament to the history and continued existence of Native peoples. \n\n\n\n\nIn the twilight of their years\, they represent the flight of the arrow of all that is Native American\, and it’s our job to carry their legacy into the future. The culture\, the history and the continued existence of Native people in this country is dependent on the willingness of future generations to embrace all that is Native.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis conference is the elders’ opportunity to share their wisdom\, experience and knowledge with the world. It is your opportunity to carry the legacies of your elders as well as create your own. \nOur biennial conference is the place where elders can educate and recommend solutions to policymakers to help improve aging services across Indian Country. DESCRIPTION:September 26-27\, 2023 \nDepartment of Interior\, Regional Solicitor’s Office\, Twin Cities\, MN \nThe Department of Justice invites to send representatives to the Twin Cities Regional Office of the Department of Interior’s Office of the Solicitor on September 26-27 for a regional meeting\, including the Office of Tribal Justice and Environment and Natural Resources Division\, and other federal agencies to discuss Tribal treaty rights and climate adaptation.  The focus of the discussion with DOJ and federal agency representatives will be on improving outcomes in treaty rights litigation and settlements and how DOJ and other federal agencies can support Tribal climate adaptation and resilience planning.  The discussions will include opportunities for joint discussions on these topics between federal representatives and Tribal representatives\, as well as opportunities for federal and Tribal groups to meet separately. \nThis meeting is the second in a series of meetings to discuss regionally significant environmental issues.  They plan to build off of the comments they received at DOJ’s November 28\, 2022 Listening Session and Federal/Tribal Summit in Columbia\, SC in February 2023 to inform these discussions.

In September\, the Education Committee will host a number of events to gather input from Tribal leaders and other Tribal experts about: \n\nHow can the federal government work with Tribes\, Native Hawaiian Organizations\, Tribal and non-profit organizations\, states\, schools\, higher education institutions\, and the private sector to raise national awareness about the importance of Native languages for Tribes and the country?\nWhat can the federal government do to create national awareness of the current crisis of Native language loss and establish a sense of urgency for immediate national action?\nHow important to a National Plan is a formal policy recognition of the historic role that the federal government played in Native language erasure?\n\nWhat should the content and nature of a formal policy recognition be?\nHow could a formal policy recognition help secure federal resources and support for Native language revitalization?\n\n\nHow could the National Plan support the integration of Native language revitalization into mainstream society\, e.g.\, school curriculum\, immersive learning\, early and adult education\, federal and state policies\, signage\, etc.?\nHow could the National Plan stimulate and facilitate access to financial support for Native language revitalization (including federal\, state\, and philanthropic funding)?\n\nThe National Plan will establish a long-term\, all-of-government strategy that works with Tribal Nations and\, as appropriate\, nonprofit organizations\, subject matter experts\, and other entities for the revitalization\, protection\, preservation\, and reclamation of Native languages.
