DESCRIPTION:The first in a series of conversations on cultivating Native economies\, hosted by the Minneapolis Fed’s Center for Indian Country Development. \nJune 21\, 2023\n2:00 pm – 3:30 pm Central\nVirtual video event\nRegister \nYou are invited to to join on June 21 for the inaugural event in a new webinar series from the Center for Indian Country Development (CICD): Cultivating Native Economies in the 21st Century. The series will provide Tribal leaders\, policymakers\, and practitioners with information they can use to strengthen and expand Indian Country economic development. The June 21 webinar will explore federal contracting in Indian Country—its trends\, opportunities\, and barriers\, and its potential for driving revenue and employment that contribute to an economy that works for all. \nOver the last 40 years\, Alaska Native Corporations (ANCs)\, Native Hawaiian Organizations (NHOs)\, and federally recognized Tribal Nations have increasingly done business with the world’s largest procurer of goods and services: the U.S. government. Recent research from CICD found that all three Native entity types have seen growth in federal contracting revenue. Federal contracting is the primary source of revenue for ANCs and NHOs and the second-largest source for tribes\, following gaming. Despite this growth\, Native entities’ revenue from federal contracting remains a small share of all federal contracting revenue. \nJoin on June 21 as they consider opportunities for Native entities to advance economic prosperity through federal contracting—and barriers to accessing and succeeding with federal contracting. Subject matter experts from national Native organizations and the federal government will discuss federal contracting’s role in economic development. Representatives from ANCs\, NHOs\, and Tribal enterprises will then share their experiences in the industry.

DESCRIPTION:Greetings Tribal Leader\, \nYou are invited to participate in a virtual roundtable discussion with Kevin Sligh\, the Director of the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) to discuss our Tribal Engagement Program. Over the past year\, BSEE has been working diligently to expand its National Tribal Engagement Program (NTEP). Expansion of the Program includes the hiring of a new Tribal Liaison Officer\, a Tribal Coordinator\, and additional Regional Tribal Liaisons who will be locally accessible points of contact for the Alaska\, Gulf of Mexico\, and Pacific Outer Continental Shelf Regions\, as well as the Eastern Seaboard. \nThe BSEE has the authority to oversee safety and environmental standards related to offshore energy and mineral exploration\, development\, and production under the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act. This authority allows BSEE to regulate energy-related activities on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf\, which is seaward of states’ jurisdiction off of the west coast in the Pacific Ocean; off of Alaska in the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas\, the Bering Sea\, and Cook Inlet; in the Gulf of Mexico; and off of the East Coast in the Atlantic Ocean. \nWhile the purpose of the Tribal Roundtable is for BSEE to discuss the BSEE National Tribal Engagement Program with interested Tribes\, we also intend to use the roundtable to describe some of our key initiatives. We will explain how the BSEE regions and program offices collaborate and plan to work together with Tribes so you will have an expanded voice in Federal actions that may have Tribal implications. DESCRIPTION:United South and Eastern Tribes\, Inc. would like to announce the 2023 Reclaiming Native Psychological Brilliance: Wise Practices\, a Tribal Behavioral Health ECHO Clinic. Native Psychological Brilliance refers to the intelligence\, strengths\, balance\, innate resources\, and resilience of Native people. This no-cost telehealth series will be held throughout 2023 on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 1:00 pm Central/2:00 pm Eastern. Each session will be one hour in length. \nJune’s session will be a part two of the discussion on Health Native Family Trauma Connected to Drugs and Alcohol. \nWho should attend? Each team is encouraged to select and work toward a specific goal or deliverable to advance climate change planning in their Tribal Nation. \nProspective attendees are encouraged to view a brief video (below) on last year’s camp. \n \n\nWhen: July 11-14\, 2023\, at 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Eastern each day. Suggested travel and kick-off dinner is on Monday\, July 10. Suggested departure is on Saturday\, July 15. \n \n\nWhere: The Avila Center\, 711 Mason Rd.\, Durham\, NC 27712\nReservations will be made for attendees when they register for the camp. \nTRAVEL INFORMATION \nMeals and lodging for Tribal Nation teams at the Avila Center will be covered by the program. Tribal Nation teams\, however\, are responsible for covering all travel costs getting to and from the event (including but not limited to airfare\, airport parking\, mileage\, per diem\, car rental or other expenses on travel days).  Teams or individuals from federally recognized Tribal Nations may request stipends for travel reimbursement. The Raleigh Durham International Airport is about 24 miles from the Avila Center. \n  \n\nWho should attend: We encourage participation by small teams (~3 people) from federally recognized Tribal Nations\, though some team members may participate remotely. These teams may include Tribal Nation climate change coordinators\, Tribal Leaders\, environmental/cultural resource managers\, emergency management professionals\, next generation/early career environmental professionals\, and/or Tribal citizens involved in climate change planning in their Tribal Nations. \nWe recognize that some Tribal Nations may only be able to send one participant to the Camp. “Teams” of one are still encouraged to register and attend\, and will be grouped with other individual participants to benefit from peer learning and discussion opportunities. \n\nCamp Objectives: \n\nLearn examples of Tribal climate adaptation planning.\nIdentify climate adaptation resources from climate adaptation science centers.\nBuild camaraderie with your Tribal Nation team.\nDiscuss how climate adaptation can align with the values and priorities of your Tribal Nation/community.\nCreate a strategy to engage your Tribal Nation/community in climate adaptation planning.\n\n\nRegister \nThere is no fee for registration. Space is limited (~30 Tribal participants/~10 Tribal Nation teams)\, and priority will be given to Tribal Nation team (delegations) of 3 people. We recommend teams register by Friday\, June 30.  \n\nCOVID Protocols  \nThe USET Tribal Epidemiology Center (USET TEC) is a recognized public health authority supported by the Tribal Nations within the USET region. Throughout the course of the COVID pandemic\, we have relied on their expertise to guide us to ensure for the overall safety\, health\, and wellness for our members\, staff\, and event attendees. As the impacts of COVID have evolved\, we have continued to assess our protocols to ensure that they remain reflective of the current status of the pandemic. \nCurrently (as of 04/17/2023\, subject to change)\, USET is no longer requiring proof of vaccination to attend USET-sponsored meetings.
