HUD’s Office of Native American Programs (ONAP) will provide a tenant-based training titled “Simplified Environmental Reviews: Use of the Programmatic and Limited Scope Review.” ONAP will post the recorded training on Codetalk.

A listening session will also be held for present\, former\, and prospective petitioners on Thursday\, September 5 at 3:00 p.m. ET. \nThe DOI initially proposed continuing the ban on re-petitioning and conducted two tribal consultations and one listening session in June 2022. After reviewing the written comments and transcripts of the consultations and listening sessions\, the DOI is now proposing to create a limited exception to the ban through the implementation of a re-petition authorization process.

DESCRIPTION:September 4 at 10:00 am – 11:30 am Eastern\nJoin the MS Teams Meeting \nSeptember 10 at 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm Eastern\nJoin the MS Teams Meeting \nFHWA announces a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) with an availability of up to $157.74 million of FY 2024 through 2026 funding\, with $47.74 million available in FY2024\, for the Nationally Significant Federal Lands and Tribal Projects Program (NSFLTP).   The NSFLTP provides funding for the construction\, reconstruction\, and rehabilitation of nationally significant projects within\, adjacent to\, or accessing Federal and Tribal lands. This Program provides an opportunity to address significant challenges across the nation for transportation facilities that serve Federal and Tribal lands. The Transcontinental Railroad program (TCRR) seeks to study\, engage\, and develop programming that tells the full story of this route. \nProgram background: In 2019\, via the Golden Spike NHP act\, Sec. 2205 of Public Law 116-9 (the Dingell Act) Subsection (c) the United States Congress charged the U.S. Department of the Interior\, National Park Service (NPS) with establishing a program that commemorates and interprets the Transcontinental Railroad. This new national program spans three NPS Regions (Regions 3\, 4\, & 5\, (Midwest) Regions 6\, 7\, & 8 (Intermountain\,) and Regions 8\, 9\, 10\, & 12 (Pacific West) as it follows the historic railway connecting Iowa to California at Golden Spike National Historical Park in Utah. \nHow to engage: As a federally recognized Tribal Nations  with connections to the railroad’s complex legacy\, they invite you and/or other Tribal representatives to join them in shaping the future of this program. They invite your participation at whatever level you would like to be engaged. It also reflects recent policy changes to simplify program delivery through streamlined cost effectiveness methods and a lower benefit-cost analysis discount rate. \nState\, local\, Tribal and territorial governments may use the guide to navigate the application process and manage the grant lifecycle to receive critical resilience dollars. Information in the guide includes policies and processes to enable effective and consistent implementation across all HMA programs.\nHMA provides funding to reduce the risk and impact of disasters such as wildfires\, drought\, extreme heat\, hurricanes\, earthquakes and flooding. Programs in HMA are Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC)\, Flood Mitigation Assistance\, Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) and HMGP Post Fire. \nThe update follows the update last year—the first since 2015—that incorporated climate change and future conditions\, equity\, building codes\, capability and capacity building\, nature-based solutions and community lifelines as key principles for its grant programs. DESCRIPTION:ICWA Webinar Series: The Indian Child Welfare Act and Advocates for Native Youth \nSeptember 17 at 2:00 – 3:30 pm Eastern\nRegister by September 12.  \nThe Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) provides minimum Federal standards for the removal of Indian children from their families and placement in foster and adoptive homes. Representatives of Native youth\, including Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)\, Guardian Ad Litem (GAL)\, and attorneys representing children play an important role in ICWA cases. This webinar is the third in a multipart series concerning the application of ICWA in State courts and the role of Tribal courts in cases involving ICWA. Panelists with experience in advocating for Native youth in ICWA cases will discuss the various roles as well as provide information on best practices.  CLE will not be provided.  \n There is no tuition charge for this training.

DESCRIPTION:The United South and Eastern Tribes (USET) Office of Tribal Public Health’s Behavioral Health team is hosting two Mental Health First Aid Trainings in September 2024. The training will consist of approximately two hours of self-paced pre-work and one 5-hour virtual training day. Mental Health First Aid\, as defined by their website\, is a course that teaches you how to identify\, understand\, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.
