DESCRIPTION:The Seminole Tribe of Florida will host the 2026 Seminole Tribal Fair and Pow Wow from Friday\, Jan. 30\, through Sunday\, Feb. 1\, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood\, celebrating Native culture through film\, music\, dance and tradition. \n\n\n\nA centerpiece of the weekend is the Native Reel Cinema Festival\, which will feature special screenings\, tributes and appearances by acclaimed Native filmmakers\, actors and artists. Highlights include the 30th anniversary screening of Indian in the Cupboard and the 20th anniversary of Trudell\, as well as the final stop of the Sundance Indigenous Shorts Tour. The tour will include a tribute to Robert Redford for his long-standing support of Indigenous voices in film. The program will also showcase short films by Native directors from around the world. \n\n\n\nAdditional feature-length screenings include Riding Through the Fray\, a documentary about roller derby featuring Seminole Tribal member Meredith Bullard\, and Remaining Native\, a film that has generated strong buzz on the film festival circuit. The festival will also include Q&A panels\, meet-and-greet sessions and special appearances by Litefoot\, Keith Secola\, Tazbah Chavez\, Doggface\, Michael Spears and others. The cinema festival will conclude with a tribute to acclaimed actor Graham Greene\, honoring his lasting impact on Native film and storytelling. \n\n\n\nBeyond the Native Reel Cinema Festival\, the three-day Seminole Tribal Fair and Pow Wow will feature Native dance and drum groups\, live musical performances\, alligator demonstrations\, and a wide array of Native arts\, crafts and traditional foods. DESCRIPTION:On January 21\, 2021\, the Department published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) to revise the HIPAA Privacy Rule to strengthen individuals’ rights to access their own protected health information\, improve care coordination\, and reduce administrative burdens on HIPAA covered health care providers and health plans\, while continuing to protect individuals’ health information privacy interests. Tribal leaders are invited to share their views and priorities with respect to the privacy of protected health information and individuals’ rights thereto to help inform the development of a final rule addressing the proposed changes in the NPRM. DESCRIPTION:Dear Tribal Leader\, On February 10\, 2026\, from 1:30-5:30 p.m. Eastern Time\, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) will conduct consultation on the Interagency Agreements (IAAs) between ED and the U.S. Departments of the Interior (DOI) and Labor (DOL). The purpose of this consultation will be to receive meaningful input and guidance from American Indian\, Alaska Native\, and Native Hawaiian communities to ensure that Tribal leader views inform the implementation of the IAAs. Each Department remains committed to upholding the Federal fiduciary trust responsibility as set forth in the Constitution of the United States\, Treaties\, Executive Orders\, and decisions of the U.S. Courts. This consultation will be conducted by the U.S. Office of Indian Education and facilitated by ED’s Tribal Consultation Official. \n\n\n\nBackground \n\n\n\nSince the founding of the United States\, the legal foundations and scope of each trust relationship between the Federal government and Indian Tribes\, Alaska Native Villages\, and/or Native Hawaiian Organizations have been statutorily unique. There are currently 575 federally recognized Indian Tribes\, approximately 370 of which have treaties with the Federal government that remain good law. Indian Tribes do not engage in treaty-making at the Department-level; they engage in treaty-making from one Nation to another to ensure the prosperity of their descendants. The Federal government recognizes this unique relationship and the importance of acting with consistency\, expediency\, and efficiency. \n\n\n\nOn November 18\, 2025\, ED announced a deepening partnership with DOI and DOL. The partnership will be governed by IAAs through which ED will procure services from DOI and DOL for certain covered programs. DOI and DOL will provide services and technical assistance and support the integration of Native-serving programs. ED will maintain all statutory and policymaking authorities governing covered programs. \n\n\n\nThe IAA scope and purpose are as follows: \n\n\n\n\nUphold the rights of Native families.\n\n\n\nReduce reporting requirements to the extent permissible under the law.\n\n\n\nAssist Native youth and adults to receive high quality education\, pursue high wages\, meet job demands\, and build skills.\n\n\n\nEnable administrative reform of policies and programmatic requirements.\n\n\n\nImprove processes to enhance both applicant and grantee experiences.\n\n\n\n\nAs described in the introduction section of this letter\, the purpose of this consultation is to receive input and guidance from Tribal leaders on the implementation of the IAAs. DESCRIPTION:Join the Nashville Film Festival and Vanderbilt iLens on Tuesday\, February 24th for a free community screening of REMAINING NATIVE\, winner of the Documentary Feature Special Jury Award and Audience Award at SXSW.REMAINING NATIVE is a documentary told from the perspective of Ku Stevens\, a 17-year-old Native American runner\, struggling to navigate his dream of becoming a collegiate athlete as the memory of his great-grandfather’s escape from an Indian boarding school begins to connect past\, present\, and future.The event will include a post-screening discussion with the film’s director\, Paige Bethmann\, moderated by Sasha Crawford-Holland\, Assistant Professor of Cinema and Media Arts\, Communication Studies\, and Climate and Environmental Studies at Vanderbilt University.This free event will take place at 7pm in Vanderbilt’s Sarratt Cinema (2301 Vanderbilt Pl\, Nashville\, TN 37240). Free parking is available in campus parking Lot 5A\, at the corner of 21st Ave S & Terrace Pl.

SUMMARY:The Access to Fair Financing for Opportunity and Resilient Development (AFFORD) Act
DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, February 23\, U.S. Senators Steve Daines and Mark Warner will introduce the bipartisan Access to Fair Financing for Opportunity and Resilient Development (AFFORD) Act\, which contains four provisions enhancing federal support of CDFIs. Particularly key among these for Native CDFIs are the Scaling Community Lenders Act (which would increase the liquidity and lending velocity of Native CDFIs nationwide)\, and Section 301 of the Rural Housing Service Reform Act of 2025 (which would make the highly successful USDA Section 502 Native CDFI pilot relending program permanent\, expand it nationally\, and authorize $50 million for the program). These provisions – which were featured in a widely supported amendment that nearly made it into the final National Defense Authorization Act package passed by Congress in December – will catalyze the impacts of Native CDFIs in fostering small business development\, housing development and homeownership\, and overall economic growth in Tribal communities. \n\n\n\nRiley O’Leary\, Legislative Assistant for Senator Daines\, will join NCN on this webinar to provide an overview of the AFFORD Act and how Native CDFIs and their partners can engage members of Congress to support and ultimately pass this vital legislation.

DESCRIPTION:Promoting Recovery Through Collaboration and Compassion \n\n\n\n\n\nDate: March 3\, 2026Time: 2:00–3:30 p.m. ET  \n\n\n\nSubstance use among Veterans and Service Members continues to be a critical behavioral health challenge that intersects with trauma\, pain management\, and the transition to civilian life. Veterans are at significantly higher risk of developing a substance use disorder (SUD) as compared to non-veterans.  Veterans with SUD are also more likely to suffer from a mental illness or experience homelessness (Lloyd\, Prakash\, and Terplan\, 2024). Federal\, state and local agencies  are continually working to reduce the prevalence of SUD among Service Members\, Veterans and their families (SMVF).This webinar will explore evidence-informed strategies\, emerging trends\, and innovative models that support recovery and resilience among SMVF. Presenters will discuss the importance of coordinated care across systems including the Department of Veterans Affairs\, state health authorities\, and community-based organizations.
