The online training will be held on April 25-27\, 2023.   \nThis webinar training is for federal and Tribal criminal justice professionals working in Indian country. This seminar will serve to enhance participant’s understanding of legal definitions\, elements of federal offenses\, and current issues and challenges of human trafficking enforcement\, to include both labor trafficking and sex trafficking. The training will include presentations on effective strategies for identifying\, investigating\, and prosecuting human trafficking cases\, including prosecutors’ roles in planning successful enforcement operations; strategies for developing victim testimony; pretrial litigation strategies; effective trial presentation in human trafficking prosecutions; and sentencing issues. The focus of the training will be prosecutions in federal court. There is no tuition charge for this training. Although participation for all three days is not mandatory\, it is highly encouraged. Native Psychological Brilliance refers to the intelligence\, strengths\, balance\, innate resources\, and resilience of Native people. This no-cost telehealth series will be held throughout 2023 on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 1:00 pm Central/2:00 pm Eastern. Each session will be one hour in length. \nThis session on April 25th will focus on Native Post-Traumatic Growth from Decolonized Perspective. \nWho should attend? SUMMARY:Regional Tribal Environmental Health Summits
DESCRIPTION:The National Indian Health Board (NIHB) is partnering with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to host a series of regional summits on the topic of environmental health in Indian Country. Each summit will feature Tribal leaders\, environmental health practitioners\, subject matter experts\, and federal partners engaging on topics relevant to each region. A total of eight summits will be held between 2022 and 2024. Such a methodology is needed for the Office of Wildland Fire (OWF) to inform annual allocations to fund tribal wildland firefighter salaries and inform out-year budget proposals. Tribal wildland firefighters are valued partners in interagency wildfire response efforts. \nThe Department’s Wildland Fire Management program budget includes annual funding for an estimated 500 tribal wildland firefighter FTEs. The methodology used to generate this estimate may be outdated. The Department believes the actual number of tribal wildland firefighter FTEs may be significantly higher based on feedback from\, and on-going engagements with Tribes\, the Inter-Tribal Timber Council\, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The American Indian and Alaska Native communities in the United States continue to face pervasive structural barriers to economic advancement. Speakers will share strategies for supporting Native individuals\, including those with disabilities\, with resources for economic self-sufficiency\, the importance of banking\, and financial education. The first session will take place on May 3\, 2023\, at 2:00—3:30 p.m. EDT and will focus on language users and learners; the second session will take place on May 17\, 2023\, at 2:00—3:30 p.m. EDT and will focus on capacity building and planning needs; and the final session will take place on May 24\, 2023\, at 2:00—3:30 p.m. with a focus on best practices and government accountability. These sessions are meant to be safe and productive spaces to have serious conversations about the future of our languages and what is needed to continue to protect and strengthen them for the coming generations.
