SUMMARY:CDC/ATSDR Tribal Consultation Session
DESCRIPTION:February 9\, 2023\, from 4:00 pm -5:00 pm Eastern\nWritten comments due by Febrary 24\, 2023\, at 5:00 pm Eastern\nRegistration \nFederal Register :: Center for State\, Tribal\, Local\, and Territorial Support (CSTLTS)\, CDC/ATSDR Tribal Consultation Session \nPurpose: The purpose of the consultation meeting is to advance CDC/ATSDR support for and collaboration with American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) tribal nations and to improve the health of AI/AN people by pursuing goals that include assisting in eliminating health disparities faced by tribal nations; ensuring that access to critical health and human services and public health services is maximized to advance or enhance the social\, physical\, and economic status of AI/AN people; and promoting health equity for all AI/AN people and communities. To advance these goals\, CDC/ATSDR conducts government-to-government consultations with elected tribal officials or their authorized representatives. The tribal consultation is intended to provide interested parties with an opportunity to discuss their public health priorities that may affect tribal nations. Consultation is an enhanced form of communication that emphasizes trust\, respect\, and shared responsibility. It is an open and free exchange of information and opinion among parties that leads to mutual understanding. \nMatters to be Considered: CDC/ATSDR is hosting this meeting to hold consultation with federally recognized tribal nations to receive input and guidance on strengthening relationships during the implementation of the CDC Moving Forward Initiative. CDC/ATSDR is seeking feedback on how the agency can better engage with Indian country through meaningful consultation. The consultation will be held to also hear from tribes on their priorities as we transition out of the COVID-19 public health emergency and on how CDC/ATSDR can better support tribes and tribal communities moving forward.

SUMMARY:North County Climate Change Alliance Webinar: Fossils\, Fertilizers\, and False Solutions
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, February 9th at 7:30 pm Central\nRegister \nPlease join to hear from Steven Feit\, an attorney from the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL). The discussion will expand on the findings of a recent report done by CEIL entitled Fossils\, Fertilizers\, and False Solutions. We will learn how fertilizers drive the exceedance of several planetary boundaries\, their deep links to fossil fuels\, and how the two industries are pursuing an aligned agenda to slow the needed climate transition. \nFertilizers and pesticides are interdependent inputs to a destructive food production model that is contributing to catastrophic biodiversity collapse\, toxic pollution\, and the violation of human rights. \nThere is also an often-overlooked dimension of the threat posed by these agrochemicals: their fossil fuel origins. Synthetic nitrogen fertilizer and pesticides are fossil fuels in another form\, making them an under recognized but significant driver of the climate crisis. Moreover\, the very processes inherent in fertilizer production puts it at the center of fossil fuel industry plans to greenwash their products through carbon capture\, hydrogen\, and ammonia.

What ethical considerations should guide the Department’s efforts?\nFor which specific federal laws\, regulations\, policies\, or research/scientific processes can Indigenous Knowledge inform the Department’s decision making?
