Many of us know firsthand the difficulty of discussing this highly polarized topic\, especially when those conversations are with close friends or family members. One technique that may be helpful to facilitating these conversations is Motivational Interviewing (MI). MI is an evidence-based skill that can be used to guide individuals towards positive behavior change by tapping into their intrinsic motivation for said change. MI has been used in clinical and non-clinical settings\, including for medication adherence\, healthy eating\, and even for improving communication in parent-child relationships. While this training is focused on using MI to overcome hesitancy towards COVID-19 vaccination\, our hope is that you will be able to use these skills in other areas as well. \nWho Should Attend? Tribal citizens of USET member Tribal Nations (especially those without a clinical background) \nWhen? In addition\, evidence shows that better indoor air in schools is even linked to better educational outcomes among students. \nThe USET TEC is working with the Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals (ITEP) to provide Tribal Leaders and staff with the tools they need to monitor and improve air quality in their establishments\, particularly within Tribal schools. The training is done in three sessions and participants are encouraged to attend each session. SUMMARY:Healthy Buildings\, Now and in the Future
DESCRIPTION:Healthy Buildings\, Now and in the Future\nhosted by USET Tribal Health Program Support \nAlongside masking\, vaccination\, physical distancing\, and sanitation\, improving indoor air quality through ventilation and filtration is an important step in any COVID-19 prevention strategy. Improving ventilation and filtration in buildings can be a great strategy to prevent other respiratory illnesses in addition to COVID-19\, particularly during seasons when it is necessary to hold events indoors. In addition\, evidence shows that better indoor air in schools is even linked to better educational outcomes among students. \nThe USET TEC is working with the Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals (ITEP) to provide Tribal Leaders and staff with the tools they need to monitor and improve air quality in their establishments\, particularly within Tribal schools. The training is done in three sessions and participants are encouraged to attend each session. School staff\, administrators or anyone who maintains infrastructure of Tribal buildings are invited to attend. \nWhen: April 14\, 21\, 28 (Thursdays) at 1:00 pm -4:00 pm Central/2:00 pm – 5:00 pm Eastern each day \nAfter the attending the sessions\, participant will: \n\nBe able to conduct basic assessments of source control\, ventilation and filtration in schools.\nBe able to teach the principles of Layered Risk Reduction for reducing COVID risks to school staff\, students and parents.\nImplement the USET TEC COVID-19 Guidance 2021-02: Recommendations for Re-opening: Improving Indoor Air Quality to Prevent COVID-19\n\nWho should attend: Tribal administration staff\, Tribal environmental program staff\, Tribal school staff \nPresenter: Mansel A.
