SUMMARY:From Fire to Food: Tribal Climate Adaptation and Indigenous Food Sovereignty
DESCRIPTION:Tribal Nations across the United States are leading innovative\, place-based approaches to climate adaptation that center Indigenous knowledge\, cultural practices\, and community health. This webinar looks at how managing wildfires\, especially through cultural burning and climate-smart forestry\, is being combined with Indigenous food sovereignty initiatives to strengthen resilience\, protect ecosystems\, and support community well-being. Drawing on real-world examples from Tribal Nations\, Bill Tripp and Joe Hostler will examine how fire stewardship\, land management\, and food systems are interconnected and how these strategies contribute to emergency preparedness and long-term sustainability. The session will highlight practical lessons and opportunities for cross-sector or agency collaboration in climate adaptation and public health.

Training will emphasize the importance of cultural awareness\, including tribal sovereignty\, traditions\, and contemporary realities; a thorough understanding of the historical context that continues to shape tribal–federal–state relationships; and the unique legal and jurisdictional complexities that define law enforcement in Indian Country.By fostering a deeper appreciation for Native histories\, values\, and governance structures\, officers will be better prepared to navigate sensitive situations with cultural competence and humility. The curriculum will also highlight best practices in cross-jurisdictional collaboration between tribal\, local\, state\, and federal agencies—ensuring coordination that respects tribal authority and enhances both officer and community safety. Ultimately\, this training seeks to build trust\, improve operational effectiveness\, and promote long-term partnerships that honor the sovereignty and dignity of Native nations. This training is available to all federal\, state\, and Tribal criminal justice and social service professionals who work in Indian country or with Native Americans. There is no charge to attend this training\, and CLE will not be available. This training is a joint effort hosted by federal law enforcement agencies responding to violent crime in Indian Country. Sponsoring agencies include the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Indian Country Training Initiative\, the United States Indian Police Academy\, the Federal Bureau of Investigation\, the Drug Enforcement Administration\, the Bureau of Alcohol\, Tobacco\, Firearms and Explosives\, and the Department of the Interior’s Office of Law Enforcement and Security’s Victim Assistance Program. \n\n\n\nIf you have any questions\, please contact Lamesha Bowman at Lamesha.Bowman@usdoj.gov\, Deborah Thomas at Deborah.Thomas@usdoj.gov or Leslie A. SUMMARY:HHS Annual Tribal Budget Consultation: Virtual ATBC Planning Sessions with Tribal Leaders
DESCRIPTION:Dear Tribal Leader: \n\n\n\nI write to invite you to the 28th U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Annual Tribal Budget Consultation (ATBC)\,which will take place in-person on April 21-22\, 2026\,at the Hubert H. Humphrey Building at 200 Independence Avenue\, SW\, Washington\, DC. Tribes are once again invited to register for one-on-one consultations in conjunction with the ATBC.  \n\n\n\nThe ATBC will provide a forum for tribes to collectively share their views and priorities with HHS officials on national health and human services funding priorities and make recommendations for the Department’s FY 2028 budget request. We hope the consultation will provide a venue for a two-way conversation between tribal leaders and HHS officials on program issues and concerns that will lead to recommendations for action. The components of this year’s consultation are as follows: \n\n\n\nVirtual ATBC Planning Sessions with Tribal LeadersMarch 18 and April 1\, 2026  \n\n\n\nAs in previous years\, HHS will continue to work with you to improve the consultation process.  The Department understands the importance of hearing from tribes on national and regional issues\, as well as tribal-specific concerns. \n\n\n\nHHS will host two planning sessions to prepare for the consultation. The first session will provide an overview of HHS and its Operating Divisions. This informative session will be particularly beneficial for tribal leaders and staff that are new to HHS or who would like a refresher on the Department and its budget process. The second session will focus on receiving recommendations from tribal leaders for the development of the agenda for the 28th HHS Annual Tribal Budget Consultation. \n\n\n\nThese planning sessions will take place on: \n\n\n\n\nWednesday\, March 18\, from 3:00 – 4:00pm ET\n\n\n\nWednesday\, April 1\, from 3:00 – 4:00pm ET\n\n\n\n\nPlease register to attend one or both of the consultation planning calls at the following link: https://hhsgov.zoomgov.com/meeting/register/W6sPH1xUSomFzS2sG0hO4g (-> click.connect.hhs.gov). More information about the agendas for these sessions is forthcoming. \n\n\n\n28th HHS Annual Tribal Budget Consultation in Washington\, DCApril 21-22\, 2026  \n\n\n\nThe Annual Tribal Budget Consultation provides a forum for HHS leadership and financial officers to consult with tribal leaders on funding and policy priorities for the Department budget. This year’s consultation will focus on identifying tribal funding and policy priorities for the FY 2028 budget. HHS will identify specific issues for consultation in collaboration with tribes during the planning calls scheduled for March and April. These issues will be sent to tribal leaders prior to the ATBC so that you can prepare your thoughts\, ideas\, and recommendations. If you plan to attend the ATBC in-person one or both days at the Hubert H. Humphrey Building\, please register here. \n\n\n\nThe Annual Tribal Budget Consultation also includes the opportunity for interested tribes to meet one-on-one with HHS Divisions to discuss tribal-specific priorities. These 30-minute sessions will be held in private meeting spaces within the Hubert H. Humphrey Building. Various HHS agencies will be available to listen and contribute to the conversation. Please note that all one-on-one meetings are in-person. To request a one-on-one meeting\, please indicate the HHS agency or agencies you would like to meet with using this embedded registration link . Requests for one-on-one meetings must be received by 5:00pm ET on Wednesday\, April 15. \n\n\n\nATBC Written Comment PeriodOpen until April 24\, 2026 \n\n\n\nTo further the meaningful impact of tribal feedback on the development of FY 2028 HHS budget\, we ask that tribes please submit written comments for the consultation record by April 24\, 2026\, at 5:00pm ET to consultation@hhs.gov. Please include the subject line “HHS Annual Tribal Budget Consultation” with your transmittal. \n\n\n\nThank you for your continued support of the HHS Annual Tribal Budget Consultation process. We look forward to your participation and ongoing partnership. In the interim\, please contact the IEA Tribal Affairs team at consultation@hhs.gov with any questions.

SUMMARY:Migraine and Headache Disorder in Indigenous Communities
DESCRIPTION:The USET Office of Tribal Public Health (OTPH) is delighted to invite you to our first GHWIC Chronic Disease ECHO sessions\, Year 2. The Chronic Disease ECHOs allows Tribal Nations to take their health promotion and disease prevention programs into their own hands\, using traditional knowledge\, community engagement\, culturally relevant programs\, resources\, and educational materials. These quarterly Chronic Disease ECHOs allow us to have a broader reach to work in community-chosen clinical linkages and culturally adapted initiatives to promote focus areas of physical activity/nutrition\, commercial tobacco prevention\, type 2 diabetes\, oral health\, heart disease\, and stroke prevention. \n\n\n\nThese quarterly ECHO sessions will feature Indigenous speakers who are subject matter experts to provide education and disease prevention to reduce health disparities and increase healthier lives among American Indian and Alaska Native communities. They will serve as a gathering for sharing innovative strategies that provide a cultural approach to chronic disease prevention\, management\, and control. The long-term outcome is to reduce rates of death and disability and the prevalence of commercial tobacco use\, prediabetes and diabetes\, high blood pressure\, obesity\, oral disease\, and other chronic disease risk factors and conditions.   \n\n\n\nWe are having this GHWIC C2 Chronic Disease ECHO session to raise awareness about Migraine and Headache disorders in Indigenous communities. The importance of having this session will echo the need for prevention\, management\, and control of chronic diseases. Each participant will receive Tribal tailored resources on this debilitating disorder to better recognize\, treat\, and manage this condition. \n\n\n\nSpeaker: Mary Herne\, FNP‑C\, is a Family Nurse Practitioner serving as a primary care provider with a subspecialty in headache medicine at Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services.  She is a registered member of the community she serves.
