CATAWBA INDIAN NATION — The annual Catawba Indian nation craft fair that features pottery and baskets unique to the Catawba tribe is Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the tribal senior center on the reservation, 985 Avenue of the Nations.
Catawba pottery that uses hand-dug clay from the banks of the Catawba River is known worldwide for its style, method, and beauty. Catawba pots are featured in museums such as the Louvre in Paris and the Smithsonian in Washington.
Catawba members in recent years have also revived an ancient basket-weaving tradition that predates Colombian times.
The craft fair also features beadwork, quilts, and other items. Hot dog plates and other food will be on sale. For information call 803-328-2208.
