Nearly $1.5M sent to Maine Native American tribes through LIHEAP program

WASHINGTON (WABI) – Nearly $1,500,000 is being sent to Maine Native American tribes through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program or LIHEAP.

The Passamaquoddy Tribe at Pleasant Point is getting $460,805, Passamaquoddy Tribe at Indian Township $330,283 , Penobscot Tribe $317,151, Aroostook Band of Micmac Indians $173,100 and Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians $173,100.

LIHEAP is the main federal program that helps low-income households and seniors with their energy bills, providing vital assistance during both the cold winter and hot summer months.
