Pearl River Resort donates to local food pantry
Pearl River Resort raised more than $2,000 and collected hundreds of food items for a local food pantry. The resort participated in the annual Restock the Shelves event, sponsored by Ante Up Magazine and Blue Shark Optics. Players in the Pearl River Resort Poker Room donated non-perishable food and money during December and January.
The Restock the Shelves event benefits the Chata Mission in the Pearl River community of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. According to Patricia Battle, Administrator for Choctaw United Methodist Missions, the donations will help provide food for 96 families.
“With the food we are getting and the donation we received, we will be able to expand our outreach,” she said. Around 65 children and elderly attend the mission on Saturday mornings for breakfast and fellowship.
