Why Women Stay, Why Women Leave

This timely and important webinar will address the multitude of factors that affect the safety and well-being of women and children living with domestic violence.

From the very beginning, early organizers of the movement to end violence against Indian women thought this was a question that people would no longer ask, because   it is victim blaming and focuses on the behavior of the woman. The hope was that we, as a society, would focus on the behavior of the abuser and ask the question, “Why do men abuse women?” However, comments like “she must like it or why would she stay,” or, “first time he abuses her, shame on him; the second time, shame on her,” are still quite pervasive, and indicate a lack of understanding about domestic violence and safety and protection for women.
