SUMMARY:USET STRONG: Strengthening Tribal Resilience\, Operations & Nation Growth
DESCRIPTION:USET Tribal Public Health Preparedness and Resilience (PHPR) is a Tribally-centered epidemiological approach to public health preparedness and resilience with the primary goal of strengthening the resilience of USET member Tribal Nations through public health strategies focused on the mitigation\, prevention\, and preparation phases of the disaster management cycle. \n\n\n\n\nThe Global Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine advocates for global health\, supports humanitarian disaster relief efforts and capacity building through education\, research\, training and exercise. They help communities and organizations build capacity in health care\, disaster response and community health. \n\n\n\n\nWhat: USET Tribal PHPR is excited to partner with the University of Miami (UM) Global Institute to provide a two day in-person training for USET member Tribal Nation staff working within the public health preparedness space! This program is dedicated to Strengthening Tribal Resilience\, Operations and Nation Growth by providing immediately actionable skills and continuing education credits. Together\, we are enhancing our operational capacity to ensure our communities remain resilient and vibrant for generations to come. \n\n\n\nContinuing Education Credits for the Basic Disaster Life Support™ will be provided and paid for by USET. \n\n\n\nUSET will provide necessary participant support materials: Stop the Bleed Kits (Advanced Level) Individual Bleeding Control Kit – Nylon | North American Rescue \n\n\n\nWhen: July 8 – 9\, 2026\, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM \n\n\n\nWhere: University of Miami Medical Campus\, Gordon Center\, 1120 NW 14th St\, Miami\, FL 33136 \n\n\n\nRegistration is open! Registration will be capped at 35 participants; registration will close as soon as this number is reached. Register today to save your spot. The entirety of the training will be at one location. \n\n\n\nWho Should Attend: USET Tribal Public Health Preparedness and Resilience Task Force members\, USET member Tribal Nation staff involved in preparedness\, emergency management\, police\, fire\, EMS\, EMT\, healthcare workers\, administrative and operataions staff\, public health professionals\, etc. \n\n\n\nTravel Stipends: USET will provide a limited number of travel stipends for attendees designated by a USET member Tribal Nation to attend this event. Your Tribal Nation will receive a stipend on your behalf to offset the cost of travel. Stipends will be allocated as equitably as possible\, with a first-come\, first-served priority. If you have any questions\, please contact Frank Soto at fsoto@usetinc.org. \n\n\n\nThroughout this two-day program\, participants will: \n\n\n\n\nEngage in hands-on Active Shooter Response training covering Rescue Task Force techniques\, civilian strategies\, and Stop the Bleed techniques (includes a take-home bleeding control kit).\n\n\n\nTour the state-of-the-art Simulation Lab\, showcasing innovative training techniques.\n\n\n\nApply new skills in a realistic full-scale exercise conducted in a controlled environment.\n\n\n\nExplore the complexities and uncertainties inherent in hurricane forecasting\, to learn insights on how these uncertainties should shape effective crisis communication strategies to convey hurricane-related impacts accurately and responsibly.\n\n\n\nParticipate in the Basic Disaster Life Support™ (BDLS) Course designed to prepare public health professionals for managing injuries and illnesses caused by disasters and public health emergencies. This course emphasizes an “all-hazards” approach to mass casualty management care  through:\n\nEmergency management and public health principles using the PRE-DISASTER and DISASTER Paradigms™.\n\n\n\nFocus on health workforce readiness and casualty management strategies\n\n\n\nInteractive discussion-based exercise to reinforce a standardized knowledge base for disaster response.\n\n\n\n\n\nNetwork and strengthen connections with public health leaders from across the USET region to foster lasting professional collaboration.\n\n\n\n\nTwo Learning Tracks Available: The Active Shooter Response Training section will be separated into two tracks to provide the most comprehensive training possible.
