USDA Forest Service Tribal Forum: Travel Management Rule

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service is notifying you of the opportunity to consult, and invite you to a Tribal Forum, on proposed changes related to the following topic(s): Travel Management Rule.
Travel Management Rule: The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service is preparing to revise the Travel Management Rule found at 36 CFR 212. These regulations provide direction for designation of roads, trails, and areas for public motor vehicle use. Executive Order 14408, Removing Unnecessary and Counterproductive Restrictions on Access to Federal Lands, signed on May 29, 2026, directs USDA to initiate rulemaking to revise these regulations.
The Forest Service National Policy Summary Analysis document summarizes the proposed revisions to provide information on how implementation may affect Tribal governments, Alaska Native Corporations, and the Tribal citizens they represent. This information, as well as information on other agency issues, is available on the Forest Service, Office of Tribal Relations’ National Consultation webpage at https://www.fs.usda.gov/working-with-us/tribal-relations/national-consultation.
