May 18th, 2023 marked 43 years since the infamous eruption of Mount St. Helens in Washington state. This recent article shared by USGS points out some interesting changes to our world from this natural disaster. The devastation and negative implications of natural disasters have become something all too familiar to our world today given the impacts of climate change. Considering the learning, innovation, and adaptation that followed the eruption of Mount St. Helen’s, as explained in this article we can seek to find the same silver linings in the natural disasters and climatic impacts we are experiencing today and will experience in the future. Learning and adapting should go hand in hand as we address the climate crisis. This article does a good job of explaining how that can be done.
