USET’s Office of Economic Development has started a new Tribal Energy Navigator Project, a three-year initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Indian Energy. USET will serve as DOE’s Intertribal Organization partner to expand energy communication, education, and engagement across the USET region. As the Tribal Energy Navigator, USET will help Tribal Nations identify clean energy opportunities, access technical support, and make informed decisions about energy development. This project is grounded in Tribal sovereignty, focusing on strengthening resilience, supporting long-term sector development, and catalyzing investments that advance diverse, self-sufficient tribal economies.‑‑
Energy is an emerging economic driver with the potential to create jobs, cultivate new Tribal enterprises, diversify economies, and reduce long-term costs. The United South and Eastern Tribes CEDS process emphasizes building regional capacity, strengthening economic ecosystems, and aligning partners behind shared growth objectives — all directly advanced by this project.
Economic Benefits for Clean Energy Include:
- Job creation and workforce development within energy, construction, operations, and environmental management.
- Enhanced regional competitiveness through diversification into advanced energy sectors.
Long-term energy cost savings, supporting reinvestment in community priorities. - Strengthened Tribal enterprise development as Nations explore renewable generation, storage, and infrastructure investments.
This project strengthens Tribal sovereignty by equipping Tribal Nations with the knowledge, support, and tools needed to chart their own clean energy futures. It also positions the USET region to lead in a fast-growing sector, ensuring that energy advancement directly benefits Tribal communities, economies, and next generation infrastructure.‑
