Commission on Native Children for a Virtual Hearing on Wellness and Unintentional Injury Prevention

The Commission on Native Children extends an invitation to join the Friday, January 27, 2023, for a two-hour virtual hearing via ZOOM beginning at 2:00 PM Central Time.

Virtual Hearing Overview

This panel will examine trends in accidental injuries and prevention in Native communities, and innovative opportunities to promote wellness for Native children and youth.  Successful community-based approaches to reduce accidental injuries and holistic approaches to wellness within the healthcare contest will be highlighted as effective means to address these issues. The panelists will provide practice-based, academic and research perspectives on opportunities and challenges to improve health outcomes for Native children.

  •  Dr. Daniel Calac, Chief Medical Officer of Indian Health Council, Inc., Principal Investigator with the California Native American Research Centers for Health (NARCH), Committee on Native American Child Health
  • Holly Billie, retired Indian Health Service and Center for Disease Control Subject Matter Expert on Injury Prevention
  • Dr. Amy Elliott, Chief Clinical Research Officer, Avera Research Institute, Joint Appointment with University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine
