IHS Tribal Consultation – Improving Access to Supplies from Federal Partners

On February 6, 2023, the Indian Health Service (IHS) initiated tribal consultation on Executive Order (EO) 14001 “A Sustainable Public Health Supply Chain,” to gather input and comments on draft recommendations for improving the process for federally recognized tribal governments, IHS health care providers, Tribal Health Programs, and Urban Indian Organizations. As part of this Tribal Consultation, they welcome input on the following questions:
- Do the recommendations in the attached document describe processes that improve the ability of federally recognized Tribal governments, IHS providers, THPs, and Urban Indian Organizations to request and obtain timely and effective access to medical supplies held in the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) and other Federal stockpiles when needed during the pandemic or other future large-scale public health emergency?
- Are there gaps or issues in the request processes described in the attached recommendations that must be addressed to enable federally recognized Tribal governments, IHS providers, THPs, and Urban Indian Organizations to obtain timely and effective access to medical supplies held in the SNS and other Federal stockpiles, when needed during a pandemic or other future large-scale public health emergency?
- What further recommendations do you have to improve the processes through which federally recognized Tribal governments, IHS providers, THPs, and Urban Indian Organizations can request assistance to obtain timely and effective access to medical supplies held in the SNS and other Federal stockpiles, when needed during a pandemic or other future large-scale public health emergency?
