“Imagining the Indian”: The Growing Movement to Retire Native “Themed” Mascots

Tuesday, October 12, 7:00 to 8:15 p.m. EDT

Co-hosted by the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) and the National Indian Education Association (NIEA), this special colloquium will explore the growing movement across this country to retire offensive and harmful Native “themed” mascots. The session will preview the forthcoming documentary film “Imagining the Indian” – which examines this movement – and feature a panel discussion about efforts to remove these mascots from sports and popular culture at the local, state, and national levels. NOTE: This special session is open to the public. Attendees of the NCAI Annual Convention and NIEA Conference are encouraged to attend.
