The Intertribal Timber Council (ITC), in partnership with the USDA Forest Service is hosting a virtual Listening Session to hear from Tribes and US Tribal timber industry regarding Tribal priorities, concerns and questions relating to future partnership opportunities with Forest Service. Tribes have managed timber lands and stewarded lands since time immemorial, including the lands that exist on their present-day reservations and adjacent National Forests. Collaboration and partnership with Tribes are an integral component to management of National Forest lands. Tribal foresters bring essential experience and critical knowledge to sustainable forest management within their territories and their traditional homelands, including adjacent National Forest lands.

Intertribal Timber Council will work with Forest Service to provide available updates on implementation of EO14225, partnership opportunities between Tribes and Forest Service, the Explore Act, and any relevant updates relating to implementation of Secretarial Memo 1078-015. The listening session will be an opportunity to discuss Tribal priorities with respect to Forest Service implementation of administration directives, identify questions Tribes may have, and foster communication between Tribes and Forest Service in advance of upcoming UDSA planned consultation sessions.

Tribal leaders, foresters and tribal forestry staff and their partners are encouraged to attend this virtual listening session. This session is intended for Tribes to share their priorities, interests and questions with Forest service to discuss opportunities for cross-jurisdictional partnership (including shared stewardship) addressing workforce capacity, timber industry infrastructure and sustainable forest management. Tribes are encouraged to invite relevant partners to this session.

This dialogue is scheduled for Thursday, September 25, 2025, 9:30-11am Pacific/ 10:30am-12pm Mountain / 11:30am-1pm Central / 12:30-2pm Eastern.
