One of the most challenging aspects of effective hazardous fuel treatment is the transportation of forest products. These materials are often located far from processing facilities, and the high costs associated with transporting these materials from national forests to forest product facilities have historically hindered the implementation of crucial wildfire prevention strategies.
The Hazardous Fuels Transportation Assistance program directly addresses this issue by offering incentives to offset transportation costs. By doing so, the program aims to remove one of the significant barriers to effective hazardous fuel treatment, thereby facilitating the broader implementation of wildfire prevention strategies.
To ensure that potential applicants have a clear understanding of the program and how to apply if they are eligible, the NWTF will host a series of informational webinars with the Forest Service for attendees to learn about the program in detail, including eligibility requirements, application processes and the types of projects that qualify for assistance. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions and receive real-time feedback from experts involved in the program.
Detailed information about the application process, selection criteria and eligible expenses can be found in the Forest Service Hazardous Fuels Transportation Assistance Program Notice of Funding Opportunity, Frequently Asked Questions and Example Grant Application.
