On January 21, 2021, the Department published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) to revise the HIPAA Privacy Rule to strengthen individuals’ rights to access their own protected health information, improve care coordination, and reduce administrative burdens on HIPAA covered health care providers and health plans, while continuing to protect individuals’ health information privacy interests. Tribal leaders are invited to share their views and priorities with respect to the privacy of protected health information and individuals’ rights thereto to help inform the development of a final rule addressing the proposed changes in the NPRM.
