USET OERM Botany and Wetland Delineation Seminar
May 5 - May 9
The USET Office of Environmental Resource Management is hosting a seminar that will feature engaging classroom lectures each morning, complemented by practical field exercises in the afternoons covering vegetation sampling techniques, soil examination, and wetland delineation.
Participants will engage in an in-depth exploration of their specific wetland plants, hydrology, and soils, equipping the wetland specialists for effective monitoring and assessment activities. Additionally, participants will develop the capacity of Tribal Nations to increase the quantity and quality of wetlands by conserving and restoring wetland acreage and improving wetland condition. At the conclusion of the seminar, students can earn a certificate of training recognized by the Society of Wetland Scientists by scoring 70% on a comprehensive exam.
The knowledge acquired in this seminar is intended to honor and respect Indigenous cultures within the watershed, whose ancestors traditionally practiced stewardship, management, and renewal ceremonies focused on the conservation of native species and traditional resource management. This approach will serve as a framework for the cultural and ecological restoration of this valuable habitat.
