Dr. Child will discuss her new middle-grade nonfiction book, In Our Own Words: Real Stories of the Indian Boarding School Experience, which draws upon letters written by Native children, their families, and school officials to illuminate the realities of the boarding school era.
Through these firsthand accounts and insights from her work as a leading scholar of boarding school history, Dr. Child will explore the experiences of Native children and families in their own words. The conversation will also offer educators and community members a meaningful resource for teaching and learning about this history.
This webinar is presented in recognition of Orange Shirt Day and the National Day of Remembrance for Indian Boarding Schools.
Dr. Child will also join NIEA in Buffalo as an opening keynote panelist for Educator Day at the 57th Annual NIEA Convention & Trade Show.
