The Bureau of Trust Funds Administration (BTFA) is proposing updates to the Indian Affairs Records Schedule for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Bureau of Indian Education, and the Bureau of Trust Funds Administration. These updates aim to meet statutory and regulatory requirements, improve clarity and consistency, and ensure proper management, preservation, and safeguarding of Indian Affairs records. The consultation is essential to comply with 36 C.F.R. § 1225.22 and to uphold the Department of the Interior’s trust responsibilities by preserving records of significant historical, cultural, and legal value.

BTFA will host four virtual Tribal consultation sessions to provide information on the proposed updates and gather comments and recommendations. Participants are encouraged to submit oral and written comments.
